So, which countries get this aid money? Many countries get money, ranging from the poorest (or least developed) countries to countries that just need a little help. Less-developed countries tend to be more dependent on farming and their natural resources than on business or industry. Look below to see a list of countries that received aid as of 2001.

How Need is Organized by Per Capita Income

On this list, there are many different categories of countries. The countries are organised in terms of "per capita GNP" (GNP = Gross National Product.) Per capita GNP is found by taking the amount of money that a country makes each year, both at home and through its companies around the world, and divides it by the number of people in the country. This is a good way of showing the relative wealth of a country.

The countries with the lowest per capita incomes get the most aid, and those with the highest get less.
