Who Gives Development Aid Money?
Most money in aid comes from some countries and goes to other countries. This is called bilateral aid. The countries that give the most in aid are the most developed countries in the world. "Developed" means that these countries make their money more from factories and businesses than from farming and their natural resources. These countries have the highest incomes and highest standards of living for their people.
The DAC & How Aid is Systemised
A group of these developed nations who give the most aid are called the Development Assistance Committee, or DAC, countries. The list of DAC nations is very useful, because all of these nations have the same way of keeping track of the amount of money that they give, and where it goes. So it is easy to compare how these nations are doing in giving aid to those countries that need it. Here is a list of the DAC countries:

Other Donor Nations, NGOs and World Institutions
Other nations, like Turkey, Poland, the Slovak Republic, and a group of Arab nations also give aid money, though they are not part of the DAC. Organisations such as the World Bank and the United Nations also contribute with funds that they have received from countries. Because many countries contribute, aid from the World Bank and the United Nations is usually multilateral aid.
